McAlister and Krahn Awards Winners

McAlister and Krahn Awards Winners (Jolly John Sable Awards) Awarded each year starting l980, in loving memory of Jolly John Sable, to the male and female diver displaying outstanding performance in Masters National diving competition. The formula is based on number of events entered, plus dive average, plus 1/5 of current age, plus points for placing 1-6, plus 1 point for each diver beaten in one's age group. After winning twice in a row, that person must pass for a year before winning again. (See note below *.) Note: Starting in l998, the name of this award was changed in honor of Bill McAlister and Viola Krahn, our two oldest active divers, in recognition of their respective contributions to the sport of Masters diving. It will hence be the William V. McAlister (for men) and Viola Cady Krahn (for women) Award For Outstanding Performance In Masters National Diving Competition.

[Note: William V. McAlister passed on in February 1999 at the age of 89. Viola Cady Krahn passed on in March 2004 at the age of 102+.Vi was inducted into the Masters Swimming Hall of Fame in 2003.]

  • [Note: As of 2006, these awards will be passed by the high point winners to

the 2nd and/or 3rd place winners, as the case may be, who have never won these awards before. This is to prevent any two divers within an age group from repeatedly dominating the award. A diver may only win the award twice within their respective age group.]
